General Preferences

Toggle the switch On or Off to activate or deactivate the dictation hotkey and floating indicator to enable scribe.

The Hotkey rules can be explained simply in paragraph format. Your custom shortcut can consist of three keys or fewer, as long as it includes at least one modifier key. The system distinguishes between left and right modifier keys, treating them as separate buttons. Furthermore, you can assign a single modifier key on its own as your entire hotkey shortcut

In Scribe's settings, a modifier refers to a key used when creating hotkey shortcuts for voice dictation (such as Ctrl or Shift , which are shown in the default `Ctrl+Shift+D` shortcut)

Reset to default: This option appears under both “Hold to talk” and “Press to start and stop”.

Clicking Reset to default clears any custom key bindings you have set up and restores the original settings, such as resetting the Press to start and stop shortcut back to Ctrl+Shift+D.

Turn off: This button is located under Press to start and stop. Clicking ‘Turn off’ disables this dictation shortcut mode.

The dictation modes and feedback options further customize how you trigger voice dictation and receive confirmation alerts. The key settings include Hold to talk, Press to start and stop, Test, and Sound on press and release.

Hold to talk: You hold down the key binding while speaking and release it when you are finished. Click Turn on to assign your key combination, or Reset to default to clear custom changes.

Press to start and stop: You press the key shortcut once to begin dictating and press it again when you are done. This mode requires a combination of a modifier key and a standard key, with Ctrl+Shift+D set as the default shortcut.

Behaviour & Audio Feedback

Sound on Press and Release: Toggle this setting On to hear a short audio tone whenever dictation starts and stops. This gives you instant audio confirmation that your key press registered.
